Microsoft Azure is currently one of the few cloud providers that AWS Competition ...can do. The Azure cloud platform consists of more than 200 products and cloud services and has worked with over 90 compliance offers the largest portfolio in the industry.

General information about Microsoft Azure

In 2017, the market share of Microsoft Azure was "only" $4.2 billion (approx. €3.6 billion) and thus accounted for just under 12 % of total revenue. In the following years, its popularity increased and now in 2020 it is over 18 % with 15.2 billion $ (approx. 13 billion €). Like most other cloud providers, Microsoft Azure is based on Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform (PaaS) and Infrastructure (Iaas). What makes Azure special is its compatibility with other Microsoft technologies. Companies that use a variety of corresponding services anyway should pay special attention to the cloud provider.

Advantages of Microsoft Azure

  • Compatibility with other Microsoft services
  • High speed, which can be seen for example during operation and deployment
  • Enormous agility, which is especially helpful when developing software
  • Many processes can be tried out within a short time without additional infrastructure - this contributes immensely to the willingness of companies to innovate
  • One of the best optionswhen experimentation is required and there is a high risk of error - disaster recovery with fail-over options allows companies to respond directly to potential complications
  • Server availability, which according to Microsoft is 99.95% per year and thus can hardly be exceeded

Disadvantages of Microsoft Azure

  • Repeated reports about bugs - there is no free support for this
  • Services such as Azure SDK - Visual Studio are problematic because they have significant weaknesses

Cost of Microsoft Azure

As with AWS, Microsoft Azure prices are dependent on the services used, which allows companies to plan costs accurately. As far as prices are concerned, we should first of all take a look at the virtual servers. The Av2 series is the cheapest and offers 1 vCPU and 2 GB RAM. At €0.0043 per hour, the servers are better than comparable offers at AWS in terms of cost efficiency. On the other hand, if companies prefer the best option (Ev3) with 2 vCPUs and 16 GiB RAM, the price is already noticeably more expensive at 0.0135 € per hour. Saving data costs 0.049 € per month for 1 GB.
