Key facts about the Google Cloud Platform

Google has been working with his own cloud provider another Tool for companies introduced on the market. Besides Microsoft Azure, the Google Cloud Platform at least in western region either of largest competitor of the market leader AWS.



General information about the Google Cloud Platform

While in 2017 the turnover was still 4.2 billion $ (approx. 3.6 billion €), it has now risen to 13.4 billion $ (approx. 11.4 billion €) in 2020, which is about 16 % of the total volume. The Google Cloud platform comprises several services, the two most important of which are the Computer Engine and the Cloud App Engine. The computer engine is divided into Standard, High Memory, High CPU and Shared Core. It provides virtual machines for building digital infrastructures. The Cloud App Engine is a PaaS service for developing and hosting applications. There is even a dedicated Software Development Kit (SDK) for this purpose  
 

 

Advantages of the Google Cloud Platform 

  • Possible cost savings, because most services are significantly cheaper than those offered by the market leader AWS - according to their own statements, the cloud provider enables savings of up to 75%.
  • When it comes to security , the Google Cloud platform is a good choice anyway, as persistent hard disks can be encrypted according to SOC 1, SOC 2 and SOC 3, SSAE-16 and ISO 27001
  • But probably the biggest advantage is the enormous speed. Since the existing infrastructure is based on Google's own fiber optic network, the connections are faster than with any other cloud provider

 

Disadvantages of the Google Cloud Platform

  • The Google Cloud platform is only available in 3 regions
  • Support of relatively few operating systems in contrast to the other cloud platforms
  • Less supply of services than AWS or Microsoft Azure

 

 

Cost of the Google Cloud Platform

When it comes to price, the Google cloud platform is a good option, especially for smaller companies, as billing is done every ten minutes instead of every hour. In general, the prices for most services are much lower than AWS or even Microsoft Azure. According to their own statements, the cloud provider has the lowest list prices. To name just one example: The Cassandra storage back-end at web level costs around €930 per month with the Google cloud platform, while companies have to pay more than three times that amount with AWS, at around €3200. In addition, Google has officially committed to pass on future price reductions to its customers as technology advances
